In our last article, Upload Contact Lists - Part 2, we covered duplicate contact matching using the account's scrubbing settings, contact tagging and timezone selection. In this article, we go over manually choosing the duplicate matching criteria for scrubbing for this upload, contact tagging, and import timestamp options.
Scrubbing Options - Select Duplicate Match Settings For This Upload
The main difference between option one (Account Duplicate Match Settings) and option two (Select Duplicate Match Settings for This Upload) is that option one is tied to the account's settings, which applies every phone list upload. This is under the account's "Data Management Default Settings" section. Option two offers the ability to override the account's default settings and select your upload options only once for a particular phone list upload.
Omit DNC Phone Numbers. When enabled, this feature removes any phone numbers that are on your DNC list.
Omit FDNC Phone Numbers. When enabled, this feature removes any phone numbers that are on the Federal Do Call Registry.
How Do We Find Duplicate Contact Matches Section
These options inform the system which contact fields are used to find duplicate contacts. Up to two options may be selected.
Duplicate Match Options:
- Match using phone number fields
- Match using email address fields
- Match using first name, last name, and address fields
- Match using address and state fields
- Match using address and city fields
- Match using address, city, state, and zip code fields
If no selections are made, then duplicates will not be considered. This means more than one contact ID may be created for the same contact.
Tip: One of the most common selections is "Match using phone number fields."
Duplicate Action. These options inform the system how to handle duplicates:
- Merge: This option attempts to combine new & existing contacts, but will not overwrite any fields with existing values.
- Overwrite: This option attempts to combine new & existing contacts & overwrite any fields where the new contact has a value. Phone numbers and email address cannot be overwritten, instead they are added to the contact.
- Reject: This option will reject the new contact if a duplicate is found.
Tags
Tags are labels used to identify contacts as being part of specific groupings. They're used to section data off for certain contact arrangements. By default, the contact phone list title is used for tagging uploaded contacts.
Tag Any Duplicate Matched Existing Contacts. When "Tag Existing Contacts" is enabled, duplicate contacts will be tagged with any of the displayed "Tags" from the next section. This feature only works if "Overwrite" or "Merge" are selected.
Tags To Add To These Contacts. "Tags" displays any tags that will be applied to this upload. If new tags are needed, click Create New Tag to manually create a tag. Once the tag is saved, the tag is auto-applied. Pre-existing tags can be selected from the drop-down menu. Once selected, click + Add Tag to apply.
Time Zone. Select the time zone in which these contacts are in. If no timezone is selected, the default is UTC.
Click Upload to finish.
