In the last article, Automations Part 1, we introduced automations and its benefits. We established that automations help speed up the process of executing multiple tasks with a single click, eliminating additional steps for routine tasks. In this article, we introduce the main parts that make up an automation and how to set them up. In this article, we cover automation "Triggers."
Go to: Data > Automations
Click Create New Automation to begin.
Name (Required). Create a name for the automation.
Description. Create a description about the automation (optional).
Active. Click the checkbox to enable the automation.
Automation Trigger
Automations are made up of three main parts: triggers, conditions, and actions.
The first main part is the "Trigger." As the name suggests, triggers are actions that kick off an automation. Triggers are tied to data objects. A data object describes a data entity. Data objects are the foundation that propose certain conditions for the automation. In our example, we have sixteen data objects to choose from:
- calendar event
- call
- call disposition
- call transcript
- case
- connector button click
- contact
- contact disposition
- contact tag
- email address
- goal
- phone number
- note
- opportunity
- SMS
From the "Data Creation Event Trigger" drop down menu, select an object as the trigger.
Example Scenario
- After a call disposition of "sale closed" has been selected, you want to send the contact a "thank you" email.
- In this case, the trigger being the "call disposition" object and the condition being the "sale closed" call disposition is what executes the "thank you" email action to the contact.
In our next article, we go over how conditions are set and fine-tuned to execute actions.
